The Public Health Agency of Sweden
Johan Carlson is an expert in infectious diseases and the CEO of the Public Health Agency of Sweden.
Carlson is also an associate professor of infectious disease epidemiology at the Karolinska Institute.
Carlson was a physician in the epidemiology unit at the Infectious Diseases Institute in Sweden from 1997-1999. In addition, he has been a national expert at the European Commission's Public Health Directorate from 1999-2001.
In 2001, he stated working for The National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen). Here he served as head of department at the National Board of Health Supervision Unit from 2005-2009. In May 2009, he was appointed director general of the Disease Control.
Since 2014 Carlson have been the CEO of The Public Health Agency of Sweden (Folkhälsomyndigheten). This is an expert authority with responsibility for public health issues at a national level. The Agency develops and supports activities to promote health, prevent illness and improve preparedness for health threats.
